RECP

Sanitary Board 30th April, 1902.

239

Sir,

To the Honourable

We have the honour to recommend that the Government

should avail themselves of the opportunity afforded by the recent

fire in the neighbourhood of Lower Lascar Row to resume certain

houses under the provisions of the Crown Lands Resumption Ordinance so as to extend Lower Lascar Row to open into U Hing Lane

and Ladder Street to open into Kwai Wa Lane.

The houses which we recommend to be resumed are Nos.

2 and 4 Ladder Street including the part of this latter known as

No.2 Tan Kwai Lane, Nos.4 and 6 Tan Kwai Lane, Nos.1, 3 and 5 U

Hing Lane, Nos.287 and 289 Queen's Road Central and Nos.8 and 9

Kwai Wa Lane.

This resumption will open up a very densely crowded

neighbourhood and will greatly benefit the sanitary condition of

the surrounding properties.

We attach a tracing which shows the houses which it

is proposed should be resumed and which distinguishes those destroyed by the fire from those which are at present intact but

which should in our opinion come down in connection with this

improvement scheme.

We also recommend that the small lane in the rear

of the houses 14-20 Lower Lascar Row should be preserved and

should be carried through between Nos.3-14 Lower Lascar Row and

Nos.1-9 Upper Lascar Row, so as to open at one end upon Tank Lane and at the other end upon Ladder Street. This may require resumption.

The Colonial Secretary.
